Colorado March-April 2024
We spent a few weeks work-cationing again. Almost a full work day every day except powder days and then a few hours in the afternoon of skiing. I did not take my Fuji out a lot but I did a day or two. First some iPhone shots and a video and then the Fuji shots - most also with a better AVIF version you can click on (Squarespace doesn’t support AVIF yet natively in their image processing, you have to treat it as a generic file).
We like to take the slower I70 frontage road and stop when the light and mood is right. The late afternoon later winter Colorado mountain sky was great. AVIF
Some photshop magic was required to remove the overhead wires and recover the colors. I think the AVIF has richer colors.
Dominique along the banks of the Eagle River at the red cliffs area…the AVIF is no better than this JPG.
Same location, different framing. If the AVIF is any better I am not seeing it.
Chris had the camera and Dominique through a pose for him. The AVIF is brighter and has a long more range.
Easy beginner slope, Chris was playing with the camera. The AVIF is so much brighter and a wider range of whites for the snow….
Is that Gene Simmons? Not, it’s Chris Olsson throwing some turns on the 3 day old powder triangle on Lost Boy in Game Creek Bowl. I was going to throw it away but it has a lot of motion and it’s super fun with his tongue literally wagging….AVIF way brighter.
Chris has one default tele mode- CHARGE!!!! When he is gonna kill it - CHARGE! When he is in deep pow - CHARGE! When he is gonna do a cruiser with his broken friend- CHARGE!!!! AVIF not much different….I think I didn’t push the ranges in HDR in Lightroom editing……
I probably should have cropped this one. The snow coming off the ski looked really good and I tried to make it pop in LR. AVIF
Pepe’s Face? But, Chris’s face is priceless! AVIF had to be cut in quality to 96% to get to the 20MB squarespace limit. It’s super noisy I was shooting straight into the setting sun and the auto ISO chose…..12800 and 1/32000 second! Weird.
The Gore Range viewed from the top of Vail (well, Mountain Top). AVIF
To the right is Ouzo Glade, a favorite. In fact, we had a great powder run in there the week before…..AVIF
14K feet tall. I need to take some time to really get this shot someday….the AVIF is only better zoomed in….
