New Year, new tools

New Year, new tools

I have been transitioning….from Capture One to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. The learning curve has been steepish, the workflows and terms difficult to learn and Photoshop is very….Photoshoppy. Masks, Channels, what tools work with what. Lots of Magical Incantations and key sequences. But overall, it is super fast, much stabler than 20 years ago, and the background erase and Select -> Sky worth the price of admission. I haven’t even tapped the ability to push out onto an iPad, use the Apple Pencil for better masking edits and then head back to the Mac for heavy duty editing. However, I made the switch because I needed Photoshop level tools for some upcoming projects (mainly photographing and proofing my wife’s and other artists works). CaptureOne still makes beautiful Fuji X raw photos, and the tethering is built in rather than another $80 add on that most people hate. But once you find what you want, there is a lot of power in LightRoom and too much inside Photoshop. Here are a few pics from early January 2021, walking around Boston while waiting for someone……lets see how they compare to the previous run of CaptureOne from last year.
